Kenny's Final Four

I recently attended a Dead Center Film Festival screening of the movie, Jumpshot. It's a movie about the basketball player, Kenny Sailors, who originally created the jumpshot. Actually, it's much more than that and it's related to Strengths.

Kenny Sailors focused on the talents he does have and not on what he doesn't have. He was able to see with clarity what his strengths are, honing them and using them to be his very best self, ultimately in constant service of other.

What if Kenny had focused on what some might call deficiencies, he never would have accomplished all that he did in his lifetime: as an adolescent developing the jumpshot; playing extraordinary high school and college basketball as a shorter player than his peers; drafted and played professional basketball, served during WWII as a marine captain, becoming a devoted husband and father, coached junior and high school sports; advocated for girls sports and particularly basketball teams and rules.

Kenny reinvented himself many times throughout his life always focusing on the puzzle piece he could provide to his community or situation.

Despite pioneering a play that today's players such as Steph Curry and Kevin Durant are eternally grateful for, Kenny's Final Four were: God, Husband, Father, Marine.

This photo of Kenny Sailors and his jumpshot landed him in Life Magazine January 1947.
